What if everything you believed about metabolic health was wrong? I’m talking about things like high blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity, and diabetes. What if the causes, and the cures, were all different than what you’d been told? Different than what most people believe?
I plunged into reading up on these topics — books, articles, scholarly papers — after my own brush with death. I was doing everything my doctor said to do. So why was I suffering so many adverse health outcomes? Why could they treat my problems, but never fix them? I was determined to find out. In the next few blog posts, I’m going to share a little of what I learned.
I’m writing this series of posts by popular demand. Okay, not really — it’s by request of one person. But I’m not used to getting requests, so why not? If you haven’t read the post”A Stroke of Luck” it’s probably best to start there. That will give you some background on how and why I got so profoundly interested in health topics in general. This is, after all, normally a book blog; I don’t generally talk about stuff like this.
A couple of caveats: I’m not a doctor. I’m not licensed to give medical advice, so none of what I say here should be taken as such. But I’ve got reasonably good reading comprehension. And I like to think I have a pretty good grasp of logic. After reading this series of counterintuitive posts, perhaps you’ll think so, too.
I’ll start with a bibliography (this being a book blog, and all). Although they’re only a small fraction of the books I’ve read on the subject, these books have been the most influential in terms of informing my opinions. They are:
The Fat Burn Fix by Dr. Cate Shanahan. Also Deep Nutrition by the same author.
The Diabetes Code, by Dr. Jason Fung. Also, The Obesity Code, by the same author.
Lies My Doctor Told Me, by Dr. Ken Berry
Stay Off My Operating Table, by Dr. Philip Ovadia
I won’t be able to go into the same detail that these books do. But now that you know what books I’m referencing, you can read them for yourself. At the very least, they’ll give you some fascinating food for thought. And they might just save your life. Even if you only read my next few blog posts. I promise you’ll be asking your doctor a lot more questions. And that can only be a good thing.
So without further ado… Part 2 is coming up.
